Gregory "Blodie" Davis is Blodie Entertainment. His vast catalogue of music experiences range from performer to professor to Producer, resulting in a wealth of knowledge of the New Orleans music scene and beyond. As founder and lead trumpeter for Dirty Dozen Brass Band since 1977, Gregory has toured the world, played on 5 continents, performed at thousands of festivals and jammed alongside with some of the world’s most renowned performers, including Van Morrison, Ray Charles, Elvis Costello, B.B. King and Dizzy Gillespie, among many others. In 1998, Gregory was offered several business opportunities and since then, has become an active member of the local music community as a booking director, educator, performer, and entrepreneur.
On the business side of entertainment, Gregory is currently the Jazz Coordinator for the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and booking agent for Harrah’s New Orleans Casino. Through these varied roles, Gregory has built strong relationships with the unique music culture of New Orleans, including brass bands, Social Aid & Pleasure Club secondline dancers, Mardi Gras Indians, as well as the more famous icons of New Orleans music, such as the Neville Brothers, Dr. John, Irma Thomas and Fats Domino.
Among Gregory Davis' many talents is his ability to connect with students as a music educator. He is Professor of Music Business at Loyola University and has served as the Educational Programs Director for the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. He also leads educational seminar workshops on the history of New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz, and the city's evolving music culture. These workshops include a lecture on the history of brass bands, jazz and New Orleans rhythm & blues music, discussions on the traditional jazz funerals, secondline parades and Social Aid & Pleasure Club benevolent societies, and performances demonstrating the related musical styles.
As an entrepreneur, Gregory Davis founded Blodie Entertainment as a culmination of all his music experiences. His company specializes in providing the perfect entertainment for any gathering, be it a private party, corporate convention, wedding, sporting event or festival. Blodie Entertainment has provided entertainment locally in New Orleans for clients such as the Organizing Committee for the Final Four, Harrah's New Orleans Casino, Signature Events, Musee Conti Wax Museum, Chris Meierhoffer Special Events, USA Hosts, LA Guardsmen and Tulane University, to name a few. Entertainment for these events ranged from jazz giants Roy Haynes and Jimmy Heath to more local homespun talent, NewBirth Brass Band and Nathan & the Zydeco Cha-Chas. Nationally and internationally, Blodie Entertainment has procured talent for events such as B.J. Thomas in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and Pat "Mother Blues" Cohen in Hartford, Connecticut and PinStripe Brass Band in France.
